For Immediate Release: Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association Receives Proclamation and Awards

Sheriff Gary Cutler is pleased to announce the fifteenth anniversary of the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association. On January 22, 2013, Sheriff Cutler and members of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office joined the Hays County Commissioner’s Court in acknowledging fifteen years of service of the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association. The Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association received an official proclamation in recognition of their service to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and Hays County. Alumni Association members consist of private citizens that live and or work in Hays County, and who have attended and graduated from a thirteen week course to learn more about how the Hays County Sheriff’s Office functions.

The Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association currently has approximately 118 members. Some members volunteer as part of the Volunteers in Policing Services (VIPS) program, and directly assist the Sheriff’s Office with maintaining records, research and special projects. Other Alumni members volunteer by helping with special community events and projects through the Community Outreach Unit throughout the year. Members give tirelessly and freely of their time to assist the Sheriff’s Office with projects such as Brown Santa, The Sunshine Kids Hill Country Adventure, National Night Out, and even assisting in the training of Sheriff’s Office staff members. From January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012, the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association volunteered over 2,000 hours of service, which equaled over $60,000 in savings to the taxpayers of Hays County. Sheriff Cutler expressed his appreciation for the Alumni Association for all that they do.

Later that evening, during the monthly meeting for the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association, Sheriff Cutler presented members with Presidential Volunteer Service Awards for their service to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. Award recipients included:

Cathy Kubica — Bronze Award for over 200 volunteer hours
Kendra Marsteller — Bronze Award for over 200 volunteer hours
