ALERT: Suspicious Solicitor(s) (07/21)

PLEASE FORWARD TO RESIDENTS:

There have been recent reports of door solicitors in the Dripping Springs/Driftwood areas of Hays County, Texas. As we all know, these solicitors are normally very mobile and move from town to town and county to county. I have received information back from several Neighborhood Watch groups telling me that the solicitors have been trying to sell educational materials, books, claiming to be doing work for Dripping ISD, and steaks. Below is a string of information provided by Goldenwood West off of FM1826. It appears that the solicitors are have been gathering names of children and their ages, as well as trying to find out times when people are home, work, or if they are on vacation. Please be safe.

Respectfully,

Jeff Jordan
Deputy/HCSO

Deputy Jordan,

Thanks for the information and photos on the solicitor in the Dripping Springs/Driftwood area. Several of our residents in Goldenwood West in Driftwood have seen a similar man this week going door to door and making folks very uncomfortable. I have included their comments below. Thanks again for your information and please let me know if we should share this information with anyone else at the sheriff’s department.

*I had a solicitor come to my door about 9 p.m. the other night. It was a young man who said his name was Zack. He was driving a small SUV similar to the one in the photo. He said he was with Dripping Springs ISD and he was selling educational books. What was SO weird is that he was referring to other neighbors by first and last name and he had their childrens names and ages on his paper. I actually saw this paper and saw children that I knew from the neighborhood with their ages written beside it. He did peek into my window because he heard my dog barking and just wanted to “see what kind of dog it was”. I tried to tell him no thank you many many times and he even finally just asked me for five dollars. Anyone else deal with this young man? I have to say he was very good at sounding like he was legitimate (until he asked for the five dollars that is). But I am now doubting that very much.

*Same guy came here about 8:00pm a few nights ago. He started off with the same story, mentioned neighbors and their children names. I told him to leave several times, by the 3rd time I was fairly forceful and he finally left.

——

*He came to our door also with the same sales pitch & name dropping. I was on the phone & told him I was too busy to talk. I had to tell him that at least 3 times before he left. He was driving the suv that was posted earlier.

——

*They were at my door on Monday or Tuesday, yes he knew all the names and wanted to know which of my neighbours had school age kids, he was selling books, samples of which he had in a sack. He was about 24 years old, stocky, driving the same gray suv. He had a younger and slimer male with him, both were very clean cut. Indiana Licence I think.

*I’m on Coyote Ridge – We had a guy show up too and my Husband answered the door – Either late last week or maybe monday – also young – claiming he was a student with Dripping Springs ISD Student doing a high school curriculum assignment for Dripping Springs ISD – we told him we couldn’t help him and he asked what neighbors had kids that could help with this school assignment. We told him we could not help him…gave him no information and he left. We did not see a car – he walked off.

——

Be very aware – he has hit more than one house apparently

——

*I also answered the door, but it was late morning or midday a couple days ago, to “Zack” who asked if we had any children – similar story about books but didn’t mention Dripping ISD. He was alone in a small SUV that he actually drove all the way up in our driveway. He was carrying a sort of vinyl notebook and had a map of our neighborhood streets – like the one that is or used to be posted at the mailboxes and like the maps used for neighborhood garage sales. I had to say twice that we had no children and he asked if I could help him find families with children elementary through high school for his books. I said I didn’t know and there were no children on this street. I was wary even though he was relatively pleasant, but after he left it dawned on me that this was probably not legitimate.

——

They tried to sell me steaks!

Came by my residence in Belterra a few minutes ago. Selling educational materials. They did ask quite a bit about schedules of the neighbors. Would not provide any phone numbers, pamphlets or business cards.
