Civilian Response on Active Shooter Events

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Precinct 4 Constable Ron Hood’s office, held a successful presentation on a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Event (CRASE) training that was held at the Dripping Springs High School on December 14th. Approximately 150 people attended this informative class. Shortly after, several churches throughout Hays County called to inquire about hosting the same presentation.

The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the CRASE presentation on the following dates and locations:

January 30 6:00pm-8:00pm McCormick Middle School 5700 Dacy Lane Buda

February 1 6:00pm-8:00pm Cypress Creek Church 211 Stillwater Road Wimberley

February 5 6:00pm-8:00pm Calvary Baptist Church 1906 N IH 35 Frontage Rd San Marcos

Due to active shooting events that have occurred recently throughout the State of Texas and our nation, many places of worship, local businesses and citizens are asking law enforcement for guidance and training on how to be better prepared should an active shooter event occur.

The presentation will be made by Hays County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant David Burns, a former U.S. Army paratrooper and a veteran law enforcement officer and instructor with over twenty-five-years’ experience. Lieutenant Burns is also one of the founding members of ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) and has taught extensively throughout the country on how to respond to an active shooter crisis. This session is open to the public and everyone interested is invited to attend.

For further information or questions, please contact Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez at the Hays County Sheriff’s Office’s Support Services Division at (512) 393-7877

Sponsors Needed: Sunshine Kids – TX Hill Country Adventure

On behalf of the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association (HCCSAAA), I am requesting your help in sponsoring a Sunshine Kid for their awesome Texas Hill Country Adventure in San Marcos, TX this summer.

The Sunshine Kids Foundation selects 30 patients from all over the United States to come and enjoy this Adventure, proudly hosted by the Hays County Sheriff’s Department.

Sunshine Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. The organization provides positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients through a variety of programs and events free of charge. For more information on Sunshine Kids visit: http://www.sunshinekids.org.

HCCSAAA learned the foundation can only provide a small amount of souvenir money (no more than $20) to the kids during their stay. Our goal is to find community participants to sponsor a Sunshine Kid for $75.00. These monies go directly to that child for the purchase of souvenirs during their visit to San Marcos.

These children will enjoy visiting some of Central Texas’ treasures such as:

Schlitterbahn Water Park, Sea World, The State Capitol, Hill Country Motorcycle Ride, and many more.

Sponsors can be individuals or groups. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Checks can be made payable to: HCCSAAA.

If you have any questions I can be reached at 512-586-0726 or at angie.hcccsaaa@yahoo.com.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,

Angie Cruz
